No. 5 Lady Wolves sweep Itawamba

WESSON — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept the Itawamba CommunityCollege Lady Indians Wednesday in a fastpitch softballdoubleheader. This was the final home game of the season for theLady Wolves.
Co-Lin travels to Gulf Coast Friday for a South Divisiondoubleheader. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
The Lady Wolves are ranked No. 5 nationally this week. Co-Linhonored its sophomore players yesterday.
All-Region third baseman Courtney Angel returned to action afterrecovering from a knee injury. Angel went 2-for-2 at the plate witha a walk, a sacrifice fly, two runs scored and 2 RBI.
“We swung the bats really well in the first game but committedthree errors,” said Co-Lin head softball coach Allen Kent. “Weweren’t as sharp in game two at the plate but we only committed oneerror.”
Co-Lin begins state playoff competition next Friday, May 6, atEast Central in Decatur.

In the first inning, Megan Bateman singled, stole second baseand scored on a single by Jackie Stowe. Stowe stole second andscored on Stacy Smith’s single for the second run. Smith advancedto second and scored on Angel’s 2-out RBI single for a 3-0lead.
In the second inning, the Lady Wolves recorded two more runs topush their lead to 5-0. Jessica Melton singled and stole second.Stowe smashed a two-run homer off the left field wall.
Third-inning action saw Co-Lin push its lead to 6-0 when Meltonhit a sacrifice fly to score Mandy Vinson.
Four runs in the fourth pushed the Lady Wolves lead and win to10-0. Singling were Stacy Smith, Brandi Bridges, Angie Davis andBeth Smith. Vinson ripped a 2 RBI double.
Collecting two hits each for Co-Lin were Bateman, Stowe, StacySmith, Bridges and Courtney Angel. Adding RBI singles were AmberBeeson and Holly Pyles.
Emily Horne (21-2) was the winning pitcher in three innings,with 2 hits allowed, 3 strikeouts and 2 hit batters. Horne hasbattled a muscle injury in her left leg. Stowe worked the final twoinnings giving up one hit, striking out two and walking none.

The Lady Wolves jumped on the Lady Indians for a 2-0 lead in thesecond inning. Angle singled to start the second inning. Davissingled and Vinson walked. Beeson collected an RBI with abases-loaded walk. Davis later scored on a sacrifice fly byPyles.
In the third, Bateman was hit by a pitch, then stole second andscored on a fly ball by Angel for a 3-0 lead.
Fifth-inning action saw the Lady Wolves push their lead to 4-1over the Lady Indians. Stowe singled and stole second and scored ona Bridges single. Davis drove in Bridges on Co-Lin’s thirdsacrifice fly of the game and a 6-1 lead.
Itawamba cut the deficit to two runs, 6-4, with four bloop hitsin the sixth and a walk.
Horne replaced Stowe in the seventh inning and retired all threebatters for the save. Stowe, in 5 2/3 innings, allowed 4 runs on 7hits, struck out 4 and walked 2.
Stowe finished with two hits for the Lady Wolves. Hitting safelywere Melton, Davis, Beeson and Pyles. Melton increased her hittingstreak to 22 straight games,
