Steam train passing by

A steam locomotive will pass through Brookhaven tonight on itsway to McComb for a Saturday display.

Jimmy Perkins, a local train enthusiast, said the train isexpected to be in Brookhaven between 4:30 and 6:30 tonight. Afterviewing the train earlier this week during its journey throughVicksburg and Jackson, he said the train is on schedule.

Perkins said the trip through Brookhaven will be the first timesince 1976 that a steam locomotive has passed through Homeseekers’Paradise. The American Freedom Train briefly visited Brookhaventhat year, he said.

The train, built in Algiers, La., shortly after World War I,will not be stopping in Brookhaven. The train was recently restoredby volunteers at the Louisiana Steam Train Association.

The locomotive will stop in McComb, where it will be on displayfrom 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday.

Guides will be on hand to offer tour assistance. There is noadmission charge to view and tour the locomotive.
