Loyd Star golfers sixth in 2A tourney

GLUCKSTADT — The Loyd Star Hornets finished sixth in the Class2A State Golf Tournament at The Refuge. Senior Blake Windham ledthe Hornets with a 2-under par 70 in Wednesday’s second round buthe was disqualified for submitting an incorrect scorecard.
Windham, a senior, shot 79 in Tuesday’s first round. Loyd Starcoach Ricky Myers said the disqualification was adisappointment.
“When he got through with his round, Blake said, ‘Coach, I shot70,'” Myers recalled. “He signed the card and turned it in.”
Windham was playing in a threesome with two players from otherschools. In golf, scorecards are kept by opponents. The scorecardis signed by the opposing player at the end of the round.
“The club pro added it (Windham’s score) up and it was 69,” saidMyers. “His opponent had kept Blake’s score.”
Loyd Star shot a team total of 350-351–701. Chris Hester shot83-83–166, followed by Dylan Britt 93-85–178, Austin Fagan96-90–186, and Andrew Bodin 95-93–188.
Led by match medalist Tyler Sparks, Belmont’s Cardinals wontheir first team title. Sparks shot 76-70–146, leading his team toa 24-stroke victory over runner-up Philadelphia at 652. Madison St.Joseph was third at 668 and Bruce fourth at 675. St. Andrew’s wasfifth at 678.
Two Wesson golfers played as individuals in the tournament.Warren Hood shot 79-73–152 and P.K. Furr shot 86-91–177.
