A Brookhaven soldier wounded last week in Iraq has returned toduty this week, while another remains hospitalized at Walter ReedArmy Hospital in Washington, a family member said.

Spc. James “Kevin” White of Brookhaven was wounded around 5:30p.m. Tuesday while conducting a mission. He was a passenger in afive-ton wrecker driven by Sgt. Steven Wagner, also a member ofBrookhaven’s 155th Infantry Battalion of the 155th Brigade CombatTeam.

According to Darrell White, Kevin White’s father, the wreckerwas at the center of a five-vehicle convoy when an improvisedexplosive device, or IED, detonated.

Kevin White suffered several shrapnel wounds to his face, headand left knee, Darrell White said. He was also heavily bruised.

“He said he bounced off everything in the cab of that wrecker,”Darrell White said. “(His injuries were) not as severe as we firstthought.”

Kevin White has returned to active duty but has been assigned”light duty” as he continues to recover from his injuries.

“He is going to stay in country (Iraq) and do his job,” DarrellWhite said. “He said if he was on his knee too much it wouldswell.”

Wagner is stable and recovering at Walter Reed, Darrell Whitesaid, citing information received from his son.

The six insurgents who set and exploded the IED were apprehendedafter the incident, Darrell White said.

“I just ask that people keep praying for all of the soldiersover there,” he said.

Kevin White is 2002 graduate of Enterprise Attendance Center whoenlisted in the Army National Guard during his junior year in highschool. He was between jobs when he was deployed, having justreturned from an Army leadership course.
