Monticello aldermen reconsidered and approved a construction bidfor a new restroom at Atwood Water Park Tuesday.
Aldermen had previously rejected bids that were above theestimated costs for the building and a portion of that constructionwould not be covered under the grant.
After reviewing other options, including prefabricatedbuildings, the board decided to issue a change order for the lowestbid to bring the cost of the restroom building below the estimatedcost.
“It was a bunch of minor things that enabled us to bring theprice down,” said Mayor David Nichols.
By changing the flooring and roof and eliminating an extra waterheater and a few other amenities, Nichols said the board was ableto lower the cost from $128,000 to $99,400.
Nichols expected construction to begin soon.
