Jeffers likes opportunity to coach Co-Lin football

WESSON — Carson Jeffers appreciates the opportunity to coachfootball at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Jeffers, 34, is a newmember of the Co-Lin coaching staff, hired to coach the offensiveline.

“Carson brings a wealth of college coaching experience to ourprogram,” said Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis. “He’s a good teacherand he gets the most out of his kids.”

Jeffers, a West Virginia native, is a graduate of ConcordCollege. He obtained a Masters degree in education from Cumberland(Tenn.) University.

“I’ve been made to feel very welcome here,” said Jeffers who issingle. “Coach Davis is a tremendous person and he is building afirst-class program here at Co-Lin.”

Jeffers said he was impressed by Co-Lin president Dr. HowellGarner and athletic director Gwyn Young during the interviewprocess. “Dr. Garner and Coach Young made a very good impression onme. The good Lord has blessed me with this coachingopportunity.”

Co-Lin is coming off a 1-8 campaign. The Wolves are members ofthe MACJC’s South Division.

“This is a very good league,” said Jeffers. “Football isimportant in the South.

“I feel like I’m working with good people here at Co-Lin,”Jeffers pointed out. “I also have some good players and qualityyoung men to coach.”

Davis coached the offensive line last year. He will work withthe quarterbacks this season. Dicenzo Miller, a former star atMississippi State, will coach the Co-Lin running backs.

Jeffers played guard and tight end at Concord, a NCAA DivisionII member. He began coaching at Bluefield High School in WestVirginia. He also coached at Concord, Cumberland, University of theSouth and the University of Charleston.

Veterans returning to Co-Lin’s offensive line are J.D. Hamiltonand Damien Jones at tackle and Anthony Davis at guard. Incomingfreshmen will be counted on to fill other vacancies up front.

The Wolfpack reports for preseason practice Aug. 5. Their firstgame is Thursday, Sept. 1, hosting Holmes Community College.
