Brook Americans whip Wesson; Copiah Co. eliminates Nationals
WESSON — The Copiah County All-Stars advanced in the loser’sbracket of the Dixie Youth Baseball AAA North Subdistrict SixTournament on Independence Day, with a resounding 13-1 Monday winover the Brookhaven Nationals at Hiram C. Newman MemorialField.
In the nightcap, the Brookhaven Americans kept their perfecttournament record intact with an 8-2 win over the host WessonAll-Stars in the winner’s bracket.
The Americans play Copiah County tonight at 6 p.m. Despite theloss, Wesson received a bye in the double-elimination affair, andawaits the result of the Copiah County/Brookhaven American game todetermine their Wednesday opponent.
Copiah Co. 13, Brook Nationals 1
This game resumed after a power outage and rain delay fromSaturday night; heading to the bottom of the second with the CopiahCounty All-Stars holding a 3-0 advance.
Copiah County, coached by Jeff Smith, Jay Strait and RobbieBoone, used a 5-run third and fourth to evoke the 10-run rule after4 innings. On the mound, Jacob Ashley, Bryce Berry and Josh Cook,combined on a 1-hitter.
Ashley got the win, allowing no runs, hits, or walks with nostrikeouts.
Copiah County got run support from John Parker Campbell, Ashley,Berry and Austin Rodgers with 2 runs each. Garrett Chapin, DougStrait, Trent Boone, Michael Nunnery and Evan Dubois alsoscored.
Collecting base hits were Campbell, who singled and tripled.Ashley singled twice. Berry singled and doubled. Trent Boonedoubled and singled.
The Nationals got their lone run in the third. Brendyn Bristerreached on a fielder’s choice. Houston Case walked. Ryan Thibodeauxreached first, as he was hit by a pitch to load the bases. DustyParks walked, scoring Brister. Bailey Warren singled in thefourth.
Graham Watson suffered the loss for Brookhaven. He gave up 3runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, with 2 strikeouts, in 1.2 innings of work.Braden Smith and Tanner Parvin each made a relief appearance.

Brook Americans 8, Wesson 2
The Brookhaven Americans took a 2-0 lead in the top of thefirst, and never looked back. Matthew Evans singled and moved tothird on a pair of Wesson miscues, later scoring on a wild pitch.With 2 outs, pitcher Braxton Foster doubled. Luke Peavey singled toscore Foster.
The Americans plated a single run in the third to extend theircushion to 3 runs at 3-0. Hayden Hux reached on an error, moved tothird on a pair of wild pitches, and later scored on the secondWesson miscue of the inning.
Wesson, coached by Ronald Greer, terry Munn and Steve Smith, cuttheir deficit to 3-2 in the fourth. With 1 out, pitcher Josh Smithsingled. Reece Reynolds reached on an error. Cory McPherson reachedon an error, that allowed Smith to cross homeplate; and putReynolds on third. Reynolds would later score on a wild pitch.
The Americans would put the game out of reach in the top of thesixth, scoring 6 runs. Foster and the American defense held Wessonat bay in the final 2 innings, getting out of several bases-loadedsituations.
Foster got the complete game win, allowing 2 runs, 4 hits,issued 2 walks and fanning 8 Wesson batters. Josh Smith thecomplete game loss, giving up 8 runs, 11 hits, 2 walks and had 8strikeouts.
Foster led the American charge with a single, a double and 2runs scored. Evans singled twice. Peavey singled and doubled.
For Wesson, collecting singles were Cullen Greer, Smith,McPherson and Jay Haynes.
