Pike County products Mike Powell and Dustin Lott are the latestadditions to the Ole Brook football coaching staff. Both youngcoaches are looking forward to the season ahead.

Ole Brook athletic director and head football coach TuckerPeavey said both coaches would be an asset to the BHS program, onthe field and in the classroom. “Both coaches come highlyrecommended. I think they are a good fit, not only for football,but also for baseball.

“They fill the needs we were after,” Peavey continued. “We havea good number of players in our offseason program. Coach Powellwill help us with administrative things, too.”

Powell, 27, a native of Cleveland, grew up in McComb andgraduated from Parklane Academy in 1996 where he starred as afootball and baseball player. He signed a football scholarship withDelta State University. He graduated from Southern Miss with adegree in coaching and sports administration. He obtained amaster’s degree in secondary education from William CareyCollege.

“I’m excited to be here,” said Powell, who will coach theoffensive line. “It’s a great opportunity to be part of a greatprogram. The kids are hitting the weights hard and that’s a bigpositive.”

Powell will teach American history and social studies. He alsowill assist with the football team’s offseason program.

The Ole Brook Panthers won the Class 4A state championship in2004, going 14-1. Preseason practice begins Monday.

Powell coached four years at Franklinton, La., working with thefootball team and coaching the girls track team. He is married tothe former Rachel Kennedy of Angie, La.. She is a speech therapistat Mamie Martin School. They are Baptist.

Lott, 25, is a 1998 graduate of North Pike High School. Heplayed baseball, basketball and soccer for the Jaguars. He signed abaseball scholarship with Southwest Mississippi Community Collegeand played second base.

He graduated from Southern Miss with a degree in coaching andsports administration. He also obtained a master’s degree at USM insports administration.

Besides coaching the tight ends, Lott will assist Ole Brookbaseball coach Randy Spring with the baseball team. Lott is singleand a member of Johnston Chapel United Methodist Church.

“I’m excited to be with a good athletic program,” said Lott.”Brookhaven has some of the best head football and baseball coachesaround. I’m eager to learn from them.”

Lott is the brother of North Pike baseball coach George LottIII. He will teach freshman science skills and reasoning atBHS.
