Unbeaten Brookhaven rips West Lincoln 12-2

Despite threatening weather in the Lincoln County area,Brookhaven and West Lincoln played their varsity matchup at MamieMartin Field Thursday night, in a battle of undefeated teams.

The Lady Panthers took advantage of 6 Lady Bears miscues for a12-2 win in 6 innings.

West Lincoln travels to North Pike tonight, while Brookhavenplays at Bogue Chitto Tuesday. Both contest are juniorvarsity/varsity doubleheaders beginning at 5 p.m.

Ole Brook (3-0) kept their perfect record in tact but there isstill room for improvement.

“It was a good win for us tonight,” said Lady Panther head coachLisa Covington. “We need to be more consistent in hitting theball.”

Covington’s squad captured a 2-0 lead after 3 innings on a runby Christi Martin in the second and Terri Hodges scored in thethird. Katie Smith and Ashley Sykes each had RBI singles.

The Lady Bears (1-1) got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning,gaining a 2-2 deadlock with Ole Brook. Carrie Fauver tripled. HolliSmith reached on a 3-base error by Ole Brook that scored Fauver.Heather Huff’s single scored Smith.

West Lincoln managed only 2 hits over the final 2 innings.

“We have to be more consistent on both sides of the ball,” saidLady Bear head coach Andrew Redd. “We made too many errorstonight.”

The Panthers authored 10 runs on the last 3 innings to evoke the10-run rule in the sixth, taking advantage of 5 West Lincoln errorsin the fifth.

Collecting singles for Ole Brook were Hodges, Julie Brister,Sykes, Kelly Vinson, Martin, Katie Stewart, Katie Smith, SabrinaDelaughter and Jana Wallace. Hodges, Sykes, Vinson (2), Martin (4),Stewart (2), Katie and Delaughter scored.

West Lincoln got 3 singles from Huff. Fauver singled andtripled.

Ole Brook’s Brittany Smith (3-0) picked up the win, whileBrittani Phillips (1-1) suffered the loss for West Lincoln. Hufftossed the final 1.2 innings for the Lady Bears.
