Pedestrian hit by car, killed; authorities search for driver

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Tuesday night onHighway 550, and Mississippi Highway Patrol officers are asking forhelp in locating the vehicle.

David Eugene Dunnaway, 20, of 405 Highway 550, the son of Dannyand Linda Dunnaway, was struck in front of the residence, saidStaff Sgt. Rod Crawford, public affairs officer for the MHP’s TroopM.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County CoronerClay McMorris shortly after MHP was notified.

MHP was notified of the accident around 9:10 p.m., Crawfordsaid.

“I don’t know if it occurred one minute before that or fiveminutes before,” he said. “I don’t know if he was in the road whenhe was struck.”

Details of the accident remained sketchy and investigatorsreturned to the scene this morning, Crawford said.

“We have no information on the automobile or automobiles at thistime,” he said.
