Brookhaven Academy is on the road Friday night at Prentiss tomeet the PCS Saints in the second week of the football season forMPSA teams. Game time is 7 p.m.

In area action, Copiah plays its first home game in Gallmanagainst East Rankin, Parklane kicks off its season in Franklinton,La., against Bowling Green and Union Academy hosts WayneAcademy.

Last week, Copiah Academy stunned Brookhaven Academy 27-6 andUnion Academy defeated Rebul 26-0.

Last Friday,the PCS Saints allowed Columbia Academy to come backin the final three minutes and steal a 19-14 win from them.

In District 4-AA action last week, Bowling Green whipped CentralPrivate 38-16, Centreville fell to Adams Christian 10-2, Silliman,La. clipped Tensas, La. 14-13, Columbia knocked off PrentissChristian 19-14, and Trinity Episcopal whipped Amite School60-20,

In the loss to Copiah, BA junior quarterback Price Sessumsscored the Cougars only touchdown on the final play of the game. Hewas intercepted four times in the first half.

“PCS should have won the ball game,” said BA head coach RayIshee. “Columbia scored on a PCS turnover with three minutes leftto play.”

According to Ishee, PCS runs out of the Wing. “They like to runthe football. They play-action pass.”

PCS moved the ball against Columbia consistently, according toIshee.

“PCS is a lot better than last year,” added Ishee. “They havemore skill guys than last year.”

Last week on defense, BA was led by freshman Kolby Byrd with 12tackles. Wesley Taylor and Aaron Douglas followed with 11 tacklesapiece.

“We had a good week (of practice),” stated Ishee. “We aregetting some people back,” including senior wide receiver/defensiveend Paul Davis (6-3, 190) who sat out last week’s game with Copiahdue to a concussion. Davis sustained the concussion two weeks agoin a jamboree in Natchez.

Ishee is looking for a better performance from his Cougars.

“We have to play well to win,” continued Ishee. “Prentiss is agood 1A football team. It is going to be another test for us. Iexpect the kids to play better this week.”

Copiah Academy head coach MItch Mitchell saidhis Colonels face a much improved East Rankin Patriot team.

“East Rankin has a pretty good team,” stated Mitchell. “It’stheir best in the last 10-12 years.”

East Rankin fell to Heidelberg 26-6 last Friday.

“The Patriots run the One Back Veer,” explained Mitchell. “Theirquarterback No. 17 (Jacob Massey) runs its well. No. 2 (RobertPrice) is their best running back. No. 13 (Michael Weldon) is theirbest receiver.”

The Colonels have had a good week of practice and will begetting back one of the -injured veterans in junior Preston Berry,a substitute defensive tackle.

“We have had a good week of practice,” said Mitchell. “No onegot hurt last week.

“We have to shut down or contain their quarterback.” addedMitchell. “We have to protect the football. We have a pretty goodchance.”

Against the BA Cougars, David Brunt rushed for 3 touchdowns and151 yards. Clint Denson intercepted 2 passes.
