The Lincoln County School Board hired an engineering firmWednesday to design a more effective sewage treatment system at twoschools.
The special meeting was at the request of the engineers, whopreferred not to wait the two weeks until the next scheduled boardmeeting before beginning the work.
Board members authorized a payment of $19,200 to Williford,Gearhart & Knight Inc. of Canton to design the systems at BogueChitto and Enterprise attendance centers.
“What we have at both schools is just inadequate for our needs,”said Regina East, board secretary.
Construction on both campuses has added more restroom facilitiesand aggravated an already existing problem of sewage systems thatwere too small for the number of the students, said Kay Coon, whorepresents District One and Enterprise.
Enterprise has approximately 740 students while Bogue Chittohosts around 565 students.
Each sewage system will probably include a grease trap, septictank, aeration treatment unit or units, a clarifier and dosingchamber and a discharge piping network, according to theengineering firm’s proposal.
The board will have to advertise the design for actualconstruction once it is complete.
