Services for Helen Furlow Scruggs, of Pascagoula, are 2 p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the First United Methodist Church inBrookhaven with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 28,at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Visitation with thefamily will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Scruggs, 95, died Aug. 27, 2005, at her home. She was bornin Brookhaven, to Albert Brown Furlow and Ellen McClendonFurlow.

She attended Newcomb College, New Orleans, and graduated fromMillsap College. After college she taught school, and was thenselected to be a hostess on the “Panama Limited” passenger trainrunning between New Orleans and the Midwest. She retired in 1972from Litton Industries, where she was secretary to George Howell,then vice-president and general counsel. Scruggs was a member ofFirst United Methodist Church of Pascagoula, First Families ofMississippi, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughtersof the Confederacy, Kappa Delta Sorority and was an avid bridgeplayer.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her brothers,William Lowry Furlow and Albert Brown Furlow, Jr.

Survivors are her son, Richard F. Scruggs and his wife Diane T.of Oxford; her grandchildren, Zach Scruggs and his wife Amy, ofOxford, and Claire Scruggs of Oxford, Ms.; her great-grandchildren,Jackson Furlow Scruggs, of Brookhaven, and Augusta Russel Scruggs,of Brookhaven; her sister-in-law, Mrs. William L. Furlow, ofBrookhaven; her nephews, William A. Furlow (Davilynn), of Natchez,Shaw Furlow, of Jackson, and Brown Furlow, of New York; and oneniece, Suellen Furlow, of Laurel, Ms.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to theMississippi School of the Arts, Helen Furlow Scruggs Youth Center,P.O. Box 229, Brookhaven, Ms, 39602-0229.
