Fighting Jackets bag West Lincoln

Terrell May looked like an All-Lincoln County tailback Fridaynight. May rushed for 122 yards and 1 touchdown, leading theEnterprise Fighting Yellow Jackets to a 26-6 Region 4-1A win overthe host West Lincoln Bears on Perry Miller Field.

Enterprise (1-1) got its first win for new head coach Roe Burnswho was coaching against his son, West Lincoln coach Brooks Burns,for the first time. The Bears (0-2) remained winless as both teamsplayed their first game in three weeks, due to HurricaneKatrina.

“This was a good clean game and both teams played hard,” saidCoach Burns of Enterprise. “We shot ourselves in the foot in thethird quarter when we had that kickoff return for a touchdowncalled back because of penalty.

“West Lincoln executed well and I predict that West Lincoln willbe a force to be dealt with in two years.”

Enterprise quarterback Blake Mckee scored on a 12-yard run inthe third quarter, putting the Jackets up 26-0 after Seth Hopkinskicked the extra point. McKee had retuned a kickoff for a TD afterWest Lincoln’s score but a penalty killed the return.

In the first quarter, Drew Waldrop scored Enterprise’s firsttouchdown on a 1-yard run. Hopkins kicked the PAT with 5:20 on thescoreboard.

In the second quarter, May ran 1 yard for a TD. The extra pointmissed and Enterprise led 13-0 with 4:15 left.

Also in the second quarter, McKee tossed a 10-yard TD pass toBradley Smith. The 2-point conversion pass failed and Enterpriseled 19-0 with 36 seconds left.

“Our game plan was to stop Enterprise’s No. 33 (May),” said WestLincoln’s Burns. “It worked sometimes and sometimes it didn’t andit hurt us.

“Offensively, I though we didn’t move the ball as well as Ithought we could,” Burns added. “I told my guys we are young butthe future looks good for us.”

West Lincoln’s Kevin Lofton scored on an 18-yard run with 1:53left on the clock. Darnell Sampson was tackled short of the goal onthe 2-point conversion run.

Sampson led the Bears with 10 carries for 60 yards. Lofton had 9carries for 27 yards. Jamie Rushing gained 44 yards on 9carries.

McKee accounted for 93 yards on 9 carries. Waldrop rushed 9times for 42 yards.

On defense, Chris Moak led Enterprise with 9tackles, including 2 quarterback sacks. Jeremy Malone had 9 tacklesand Waldrop made 7. Alex Powell intercepted a pass.

Rushing had 10 tackles, including 4 solo stops, for WestLincoln. Patrick Smith also had 10 tackles. Lee Jones had 4 solostops and 3 assists. James Magee intercepted a pass. Lofton andTrey Maurer recovered fumbles.

West Lincoln hosts Natchez Cathedral Friday night whileEnterprise hosts Mt. Olive for Region 4-1A action.
