Lady ‘Cats rip Salem

BOGUE CHITTO — Rebounding from a weekend loss in the North PikeTournament, Bogue Chitto’s Lady ‘Cats smashed Salem 11-1 Monday ina Division 7-1A slowpitch softball contest. Latoya Braxton (14-2)pitched the win, walking none and striking out none in the 5-inningaffair.

“We hit the ball better tonight,” said BC coach Scott Leggett.”Defensively, we played well.

“Salem had several chances to score more runs but our defensecame through,” Leggett added. “It was an important divisionwin.”

Leggett’s Lady ‘Cats (15-2, 5-0) visit West Lincoln Thursday fora division showdown. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m.,followed by the varsity at 6.

Three singles each by Meleah Brown and Dori Hall powered thevictory. Kelli Howard tripled and singled. Candace Avants singledtwice and Devan Welch doubled. Shaquille Burton, Jessie Miller andBraxton singled.

The Lady ‘Cats plated 5 runs in the bottom of the first and led6-0 after 2 frames. They closed out the game in the fifth with 5more runs.

Janna King took the loss for Salem. She struck out 1 batters andwalked 1.

The Lady Wildcats finished with 6 hits and committed 5 errors.Kristen Thomas, Jamie Ginn, Angela Polk,, Megan Murrell, TaneshaMontgomery and Chasidy Prescott singled.

In the JV game, Bogue Chitto posted a 7-2victory. Christianna May pitched the win, striking out 2 battersand walking 4.

At the plate, Chassity Moak, Bradi Davis, Amanda Owen, HannahNichols and Morgan Roberts singled as BC improved its record to8-2.
