BA Cougars outscore Columbia

In a Monday night special, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars usedPrice Sessums and a revamped offense to outscore Columbia Academy35-21. Sessums moved to running back and responded with 3 rushingtouchdowns and a 21-yard scoring pass from Corey Dickerson.
“It was Monday night football,” laughed BA coach Ray Ishee. “Itjust proves that anything can happen, can happen on Mondaynights.”
Ishee’s Cougars used big plays by Sessums and Dickerson toovercome Columbia’s grind-it-out offense which dominated thecontest. The visitors ran 55 rushing plays and gained 252yards.
The homecoming game was originally scheduled for Friday nightbut Hurricane Rita caused a delay. The BA Cougars (4-1, 1-0) resumeplay Friday night at Silliman Institute in Clinton, La. Columbiaabsorbed its first loss, falling to 3-1 and 0-1.
Sessums was moved from quarterback to tailback for last night’sgame. Dickerson switched from quarterback to wide receiver.
Ishee said that starting running back T-Boy Lynch wasunavailable for the game due to disciplinary action.
Sessums, a junior, scored on runs of 67, 93 and 30 yards. Hefinished with 13 carries for 222 yards.
The first-quarter, 21-yard touchdown pass from Dickerson toSessums came on fourth down., Dickerson had been sacked for a10-yard loss on third down. Sessums caught the pass on a deep-outpattern and dragged a defender across the goal line after breakingtwo tackles.
The BA Cougars led 21-0 at halftime before Columbia rallied. BenSelman worked at fullback and wingback in Columbia’s double-wingformation, rushing for 3 TDs..
On defense, end Paul Davis led BA with 15tackles. Freshman linebacker Kolby Byrd added 12 tackles andblocked 2 punts. Linebacker Wesley Taylor had 10 tackles.
Travis Pace intercepted a pass for Columbia.
