Delos Lamar Cole

Delos Lamar Cole, 92, formerly of Prentiss, passed away Friday,Sept. 30, 2005, at Adventist Health Center in Purvis. Visitation is10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Prentiss Baptist Church in Prentiss. Servicesare 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with burial in Prentiss CityCemetery. Moore Funeral Home of Hattiesburg is handlingarrangements.

Mr. Cole was born in Lincoln County. He graduated fromEnterprise High School and Mississippi State University. Upongraduation from college, he became an employee of the state ofMississippi. In 1946, he moved his family to Indianola, where hewas the owner of Ideal Cleaners until 1964. He was the State Farmagent in Indianola from 1960 until 1981. He served as alderman inIndianola for eight years and as mayor from 1969 to 1979. In 1981,he retired and moved to Prentiss. He became a resident of theLoyalton Assisted Living Facility in Hattiesburg in July of2003.

He was a member of the Prentiss Baptist Church. In years goneby, he held many positions of leadership in this church as well asthe First Baptist Church in Indianola. He served as a deacon inboth of these churches.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Polk Gunn Cole; hismother and father, Lula and Jim Cole; and a sister, Jimmie LaverneCole.

He is survived by a daughter, Delores Cole Grantham and husbandLarry of Cullowhee, N.C.; a son, Frank Gunn and wife Sandra ofBiloxi; five grandchildren, Christy Grantham of Wilmington, N.C.,Gary Grantham of North Carolina, Frank Gunn Jr. and wife Lydia ofShreveport, La., Alicia Clark and husband Jeff of Hattiesburg andDavid Gunn and wife Gina of Gulfport; eight great-grandchildren; asister, Bonnie Cole of Brookhaven; and a brother, Dallas Cole andhis wife Velma of Macon, Ga.
