BOGUE CHITTO — Running back Corey Washington scored fivetouchdowns Friday night to power the Bogue Chitto Bobcats in a 31-8Region 4-1A win over the West Lincoln Bears in a battle of winlessteams.

Bogue Chitto improved to 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in regionplay. West Lincoln fell to 0-5 overall and 0-4.

“We started off sluggish,” said Bogue Chitto head football coachGareth Sartin. “In the second quarter, we played better and hadbetter momentum, especially when C.J. Tate started us off with agood 71-yard kickoff return that set up that nine-yard run by CoreyWashington to begin the third quarter.

“But West Lincoln played us hard and tough even though the scoredoes not show it. We just need to correct our mistakes and stop ourturnovers. But I’m glad t get the win.”

Washington rushed the football 18 times for 160 yards and fivetouchdowns for Bogue Chitto. Rushing eight times for 32 yards wasSeth Avants.

“I thought our kids played real hard,” said West Lincoln headcoach Brooks Burns. “Like I told my guys during practice this week,if we can control and stop Bogue Chitto’s No. 33 (Washington), wecan win. But we did not do that during the game and he hurt us.

“But I’m still proud of our effort we had. We just had too manymistakes and didn’t stop No. 33.”

Washington’s 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter put theBobcats up 7-0 early. Erik Allen kicked the extra point with 6:42left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, West Lincoln punched in its only TD on a14-yard run by Kevin Lofton. That was followed by a two-pointconversion pass play from Lofton to Witt May with 9:12 left.

Bogue Chitto roared back at the 7:16 mark to score on a 14-yardrun by Washington but failed on the two-point run attempt to take a13-8 lead in the first half.

Third-quarter play saw Washington get loose for a 9-yard TD with11:39 on the clock. The two-point pass-play failed as the Bobcatspushed their lead to 19-8.

The Bobcats scored again in the third quarter on a 20-yard runby Washington with 9:26 left. Again the two-point conversion failedas Bogue Chitto led 25-8.

Washington tacked on his fifth TD of the game on a 16-yard carrywith 7:07 left in the fourth quarter. The PAT kick failed as theBobcats took a 31-8 lead.

The Bears’ running game was directed by Lofton with 14 carriesfor 60 yards. Lee Jones rushed for 27 yards on 17 carries. DexterHutson carried five times for 38 yards. Rushing for 39 yards onnine carries was Aaron McCaffery.

West Lincoln’s Lofton completed 3 of 8 passes for 27 yards andwas intercepted once. May caught two passes for 13 yards. Jonescaught a pass for 14 yards.

On defense, Richard Williams led Bogue Chittowith 11 tackles. Scotty Brown and Robert Anderson made ninetackles. Making six stops each were Donyea Dillon, Ty McKee andMatt Boone.

West Lincoln was led by Patrick Smith with 14 tackles. Loftonfollowed with 13 stops. Making 12 tackles was Jones. Jamie Rushingcollected nine tackles.
