Bogue Chitto coach Scott Leggett and his Lady ‘Cats are on amission. Runners-up to Ingomar in the Class 1A state championshipfinals last year, the Lady ‘Cats want to win it all thisseason.

For Bogue Chitto, the first hurdle arrives this afternoon whenthe Lady ‘Cats host Weir in the opening round of the stateplayoffs. The best-of-three series starts at 5 p.m. and will becompleted at Bogue Chitto tonight.

The second round is set for Saturday, at locations not yetdetermined.

The Ole Brook Lady Panthers are home today for a Class 4A serieswith D’Iberville. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. at Martin Field.

In other area action, West Lincoln travels to Nanih Waiya inClass 1A and Wesson hosts St. Andrew’s in Class 2A. North Pikehosts Morton in a 3A series today.

Lady ‘Cats Ready

Leggett, 30, is in his second year at the helm of BC softball.The Lady ‘Cats (22-3, 10-0) are fresh from winning the Division7-1A championship, going unbeaten in division play.

Leggett said his scouting report on Weir was limited. “Iunderstand they have an outstanding left-centerfielder who can hitthe ball.”

Bogue Chitto boasts a .433 team batting average. The ‘Cats areled by right-center fielder Chelsey Miller (.518 batting average)and shortstop Meleah Brown (.513), the only senior on the team.Brown has 41 RBI and 4 home runs. Miller has 37 RBI and 11homers.

Latoya Braxton (20-3) is the main pitcher for BC. At the plate,she bats .413.

Left-centerfielder Candace Avants (.427), leftfielder KelliHoward (.467), catcher Shaquille Burton (.397) and third basemanJessie Miller (.391) are among the leading hitters for BC.

Coach Lisa Covington’s Lady Panthers vividly remember lastyear’s series with D’Iberville. The second-round matchup atD’Ibervile was a 3-game marathon which saw Ole Brook prevail.

The Panthers (19-4, 9-1) won another Division 6-4A championshipthis season. They’re led by senior shortstop Ashley Sykes (.592),The DAILY LEADER’s 2004 All-Area Slowpitch Softball MVP.

West Lincoln’s Lady Bears (15-8), coached by Andrew Redd, face along road trip today. They were runners-up to Bogue Chitto in thedivision race.

Nanih Waiya doesn’t have lights at its field so the seriesbegins at 1 p.m.
