Lady ‘Cats sweep W. Lincoln in South State championship

BOGUE CHITTO — The Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats are returning to theClass 1A state championship finals. They swept the West LincolnLady Bears Tuesday in the South State finals on Stan Long Field,winning 19-5 and 6-3.

Bogue Chitto (28-3) will play the Myrtle Lady Hawks Saturday atV.A. Fields in Jackson. Myrtle swept Hamilton for the North title.The best-of-three series begins at 11 a.m.

West Lincoln (19-10) ends its season with four setbacks comingfrom Bogue Chitto. The Lady ‘Cats needed only 5 innings to winyesterday’s opener.

The Lady ‘Cats exploded for 10 runs in the first inning andnever looked back., They were directed by right-centerfielderChelsey Miller who hit 2 home runs., Devon Welch singled andhomered.,

Catcher Shaquille Burton smashed 3 hits in the victory.Collecting 2 hits for the Lady ‘Cats were Meleah Brown, KelliHoward, Latoya Braxton, Dori Hall and Jessie Miller. Candace Avantssingled.

Braxton, the winning pitcher, did not issue a strikeout or awalk. Losing pitcher Britnee Smith fanned 1 batter and walked4.

“Bogue Chitto jumped on us in the first game with 10 runs and wegot down,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “In the secondgame, we had runners on but couldn’t get them in when weneeded.”

Brittani Phillips homered and singled for West Lincoln. CarrieFauver tripled. Meagan Neal doubled. Holli Smith singled twice.Keri Easley, Heather Huff and Kacey Smith singled.

Bogue Chitto 6, West Lincoln 3

Fauver’s homer highlighted a 3-run, first-inning in the secondgame. In the third, BC rallied as Caitlin Owen singled, ChelseyMiller doubled and Brown hit a 2-run single, making it 3-2.

In the fifth, BC took a 4-3 lead as Chelsey Miller and Brownhomered.

The Lady ‘Cats finished with 11 hits. Leftfielder Kelli Howardhomered and singled. Brown had 3 hits. Welch had 2 hits. Owen,Jessie Miller and Hall singled.

In the win, Braxton fanned 1 batter and walked none. BritneeSmith walked 2 batters and struck out none.

West Lincoln was paced by Fauver’s homer. Holli Smith had 2hits. Hannah Knouse, Kelsey Bass, Britnee Smith and Easleysingled.,
