Across the nation, organizations large and small, private andpublic, for-profit and nonprofit have lent what help they couldmuster to ongoing hurricane-relief efforts.

Lions Clubs of America is no exception.

A truck and trailer on loan from a business in Connecticut havemade several trips to the coast delivering items from that state,Georgia, Ohio and Mississippi – including Brookhaven – for theclub.

“We brought two trailer truckloads of supplies down already. Thesecond load we dropped off Sunday. This will be the third,” saidGlenn Boglisch, a member of the Windsor Locks, Conn., Lions Clubwhile loading supplies at a Brookhaven warehouse Tuesday.

Boglisch, who is volunteering his time and driving skills, tooka load from Connecticut to Gulfport two weeks after HurricaneKatrina ravaged the Gulf Coast.

Sunday, he returned to the coast with a load of medical andschool supplies for De Lisle, in western Harrison County. He thenwent to Georgia and picked up a load of more than 4,000 pairs ofpants and shirts donated by the Haband Corp.

He stopped in Brookhaven on his way back to the coast to pick upa load of supplies from a warehouse here of items gathered by theDistrict 13-K Ohio Lions Clubs.

“We had room in the truck, and there was over a half-trailerload of items collected and donated from the Ohio Lions anddelivered here because the warehouses on the coast were filled ornot ready to handle it yet,” Boglisch said.

Katherine Rawls, a member of the Brookhaven Alpha Lions Club andthe district council chair for Multi-District 30, said coordinatingthe efforts are a challenge, but other Lions Clubs have similarefforts ongoing.
