Services for Margie Smith, of Madison, are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.25 at Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson.
Visitation is today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Wright andFerguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson, and Tuesday from 1until 2 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Smith, 76, died Oct. 23, 2005, at home surrounded by herfamily after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was bornin Franklin County on Aug. 6, 1929.
She graduated from Gilfoy School of Nursing and worked as anurse at King’s Daughters Hospital in Brookhaven; Baton RougeGeneral Hospital, Baton Rouge, La.; the Children’s Medical Group inJackson; and the Baptist Medical Center of Jackson. She worked atthe Baptist Medical Center for 25 years and retired as head nurseof OB-GYN. Nursing was more than a job; it was her calling. She wasa long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved music,loved to sing and loved to worship.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Martin and InezJackson, of Brookhaven; and her brother, Edwin Jackson, of Bivens,Texas.
Survivors are her husband of 53 years, David L. Smith; herdaughters, Kathy Boteler, of Madison, Karen Godfrey, of Vicksburg,and Linda Smith, of Madison; her brother, John W. Jackson, ofNatchez; her sister, Sybil Freeman, of Brookhaven; fourgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
