Lawrence County’s popular Holiday Tour of Homes and HistoricPlaces is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The tour, sponsored by the county’s historical society, willhighlight some of the county’s most unique homes “dressed inholiday trimmings” and a few of its many registered historicallandmarks, said Kay Allen, an event organizer with the historicalsociety.

“We’re ready,” Allen said. “We excited about this year’s eventand believe there is a little something here for everyone.”

Homes featured this year include the homes of Marvin and DaphineVining, Mac and Betty Gayle Flowers, Brant and Shanteau Tirello andthe Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity home built this year.

A lunch, included in the price of the tour, will be served inthe historic Lawrence County Civic Center in downtown Monticello.New Orleans-style red beans and rice has been added to the menuthis year.

The civic center served as Monticello High School for severaldecades.

The Regional History Museum located on the bottom floor of thecivic center will be open for viewing. It depicts the rich historyof territorial Lawrence County.

Directly behind the museum on the banks of the Pearl River,Cooper’s Ferry Park is the historic site of a steamboatlanding.

Further down the tour trail, visitors will find regional artistsand craftsmen displaying their wares at the Governor Longino House,Allen said.

Tour tickets will be on sale at the Civic Center and include amap of the route. The cost of the tour and lunch is $10.
