‘Never won anything,’ says year’s first winner of Hometown Bucks

Maria Peters stopped by Repetitions to pay her utility bill andwound up getting a surge in holiday spending power.

The Sunview Lane resident was chosen this week at the firstwinner of $100 in Hometown Bucks during The DAILY LEADER’s annualHometown Christmas promotion.

“It was a thrill to win. I’ve never won anything,” Peters saidas she was presented with her winnings.

Peters said she registered for the drawing only once atRepetitions after stopping there to pay her light bill.

“That’s why it surprised me,” she said about beating theodds.

Peters said she had not decided how to spend her Hometown Bucks.She wanted to get a list of participating merchants beforedeciding.

“I’ll probably try to get something for my children forChristmas,” she said.

Peters and her husband, Don, have two children: Daniel, 5, andLauren, 10 months.

* State Bank and Trust Co.

Forms and boxes have been placed at each merchant location forshoppers to submit entries. Residents may register at the banks butmay not spend their winnings there.

Every week during the contest, one name is drawn from eachparticipating merchant. From those, one name is drawn for theweekly $100 prize.

All entries are saved, and at the end of the contest on Dec. 16,the $500 grand prize winner is drawn.

DAILY LEADER employees and their families are not eligible towin. Employees of participating merchants may not register at theirrespective businesses, but they may register at any of the otherparticipating merchants.
