“We always have over a 100 entries,” Rich said, adding there havebeen indications more floats will be in this year’s parade. “Thatreally makes me happy, and it’s what I’ve been asking for.”

The parade will kick off at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Making a return this year will be Jackson State University’s SonicBoom of The South.

“I don’t think we’ve been there in about four years,” said Dr.Lewis Ladell, director of the band. “We’re looking forward tocoming back down there.”

Rich said area bands also have been invited to participate.

Due to ongoing paving of downtown streets, Rich said she will talkto Mayor Bob Massengill regarding a parade route Wednesday.

“That’s going to be a last-minute decision,” Rich said.

New paving is in place along part of the traditional paraderoute.

Rich said determining a route would not be a problem forparticipants, but she expressed some concern about spectators whohave a traditional spot for viewing the parade. She indicated anyroute changes would be publicized prior to the parade.

Rich said the forecast is for cooler weather by Thursday.

“That’s OK, too,” Rich said.
