Hornets split with Bo’ Chitto

Loyd Star sophomore Drew Case fired in 18 points, grabbed 9rebounds and made 2 steals Tuesday night in helping the host LoydStar Hornets to a 75-59 win over their Lincoln County rival, theBogue Chitto Bobcats.
In varsity girls play, 6-foot center Shasta Porter’s 18 pointsand 14 points sparked the Lady Bobcats in a close 57-54 victoryover the Lady Hornets.
Loyd Star entertains Enterprise Friday night for 4 games,beginning at 4 p.m.
Loyd Star 75, Bogue Chitto 59
The Hornets (3-2) held a slim 1-point, 18-17 lead, in the firstquarter. Loyd Star forced some turnovers to make a 25-6 run onBogue Chitto and post a 43-23 lead going into halftime.
“We did well on the boards,” said Loyd Star boys coach Gene(Moochie) Britt. “We rebounded well early. Our outside shooting wasgood. We played really well.”
Adding support to the Hornet win with 16 points and 3 steals wasTyler Williford. Ricky Barnes netted 13 points, pulled down 6rebounds and blocked 2 shots.
Bogue Chitto, coached by Andrew Smithie, got a game-high 24points from Mario Addison. Keyouna Perkins followed with 11points.
Bogue Chitto 57, Loyd Star 54
The Lady ‘Cats scored in the final minute and made their freethrows to take the win from the Lady Hornets. Bogue Chitto led15-13 in the first quarter while Loyd Star came back to take a29-28 lead at the half. A 15-11 run in the third quarter gave theLady ‘Cats a slim 43-40 lead going into the fourth quarter.
“We absolutely did not rebound,” said Loyd Star girls coach LoriBritt. “That’s why we got beat.”
The Lady ‘Cats (2-2), coached by Christi Terrell, had 2 moreplayers in double figures. Kimberlee Thomas pumped in 19 points and5 rebounds; followed by Meleah Brown with 16 points, 8 rebounds and6 assists.
“It was a good game,” said Terrell. “Our girls hustled andrebounded when we needed to. We made some free throws at the endwhen it really counted.”
Center Hailey Ratcliff directed the 2-3 Lady Hornets with 21points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and a blocked shot. Shannon Chesterfired in 14 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and had 5 assists.Making 4 steals was Brittany Brown. Kristen Newell had 5assists.
Junior High Results
In the junior high girls game, Bogue Chitto beat Loyd Sta 35-29,directed by Adrian Hall with 13 points and Aneshia Dillon with 12.Hall also had 6 rebounds.
Loyd Star (4-4) got 9 points from Anna Brooks.
In boys action, unbeaten Loyd Star (8-0) beat the Bobcats 56-30,led by Fred Clark with 13 points and Glenn Thomas with 12. McKinleyadded 10 points.
The Bobcats got 19 points from Justin Gaines. Collay Johnson had6 points.
