Hornets split with Enterprise

Guard Tyler Williford fired in 19 points, grabbed 6 rebounds andmade 8 steals to lead the host Loyd Star Hornets to a 58-44 winover the Enterprise Yellow Jackets Friday night.

In the girls game, Lady Jacket Alisha Mason pumped in agame-high 34 points to spark Enterprise in a 65-51 victory over theLady Hornets. Mason finished with 16 rebounds, 1 steal and 3assists.

The Enterprise boys (1-3) trailed Loyd Star (4-2) 10-2 in thefirst quarter but came back in the second quarter to cut thedeficit to 1 point, 25-24, at the half.

“In the first half, we shot the ball poorly,” said Loyd Starboys coach Gene (Moochie) Britt. “We missed a lot of easy shots.Enterprise kept us on a tight rope.”

Third-quarter play saw the Hornets go on a 16-12 run to take aslim 39-36 lead over the Jackets going into the final frame. A 19-8scoring spree in the final frame secured the hosts the win.

“In the second half, we played aggressive defensively and madeour shots and managed to get a comfortable lead,” added Britt.”We’ve just got to improve, but I’m proud of may team and theireffort. I’m glad to get the win.”

Contributing to the Loyd Star win with 13 points, 7 rebounds and4 steals was Drew Case. Matthew Henderson followed with 12 pointsand 6 rebounds. Leading off the backboards with a game-high 18rebounds was Ricky Barnes. Adam Case pulled down 9 rebounds.

“This was the best my guys have played all year,” saidfirst-year Enterprise boys coach Josh Bass. “We made a lot of baddecisions. But we showed signs of improvement. Loyd Star is wellcoached. And Coach Britt does a great job with his team.”

Enterprise 65, Loyd Star 51

The Loyd Star girls (2-4) overcame a 10-9 first-quarter deficitand tied Enterprise 22-all at halftime. The Lady Jackets outscoredthe Lady Hornets 43-29 in the second half to preserve the win.

“We changed up our defense a little,” said Enterprise girlscoach Jill Nations. “We were most comfortable on the changedefensively. We needed to win. Loyd Star played hard and prettygood. I thought they shot the 3’s real well.”

Adding support to the Enterprise win with 17 points, 8 rebounds,5 assists and a steal was Kacey Rutland. Marquisha Frazier grabbed5 rebounds, made 1 steal and had 6 assists.

“Enterprise played hard and well,” said Loyd Star girls coachLori Britt. “Mason is a good shooter/scorer. We are still notrebounding.”

Directing Loyd Star with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals wasShannon Chester. Collecting 15 points and 8 rebounds was BrittanyBrown. Hailey Ratcliff finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3steals.

Junior varsity action

Loyd Star put away Enterprise 34-19 in boys JV action.

Steve Watts led the Hornets with 7 points. Ashton Fox followedwith 5.

Curtis Magee’s 6 points paced Enterprise.

In girls play, Heather Carmical’s game-high 12points sparked the Lady Hornets to a 42-23 win over the Jackets.Marcy Montgomery had 6 points for Loyd Star.

Enterprise got 5 points from Erika Rutland.
