WESSON — Any Co-Lin basketball fan who came in late Mondaynight must have thought they were in the Twilight Zone. On thebasketball court were two Co-Lin women’s basketball teams, one inwhite uniforms and one in blue.

What happened was the Northwest Lady Rangers left their uniformsback on campus in Senatobia and had to wear the Co-Lin blueuniforms last night.

In the end, the homestanding white-clad Lady Wolves put away theLady Rangers 78-62 and improved their record to 4-4 on theseason.

It was the final game of the first half of the season. Followingthe Christmas and New Year’s holiday, Co-Lin resumes basketballplay on January 9, 2006, hosting the East Central Warriors.

“We needed a win,” said Co-Lin women’s head coach Gwyn Youngfollowing the game. “Northwest has a good team. They are veryathletic. The kids needed it. It was good for us.”

The Lady Rangers, coached by Don Edwards, fell to 6-4 with theloss.

In the first half, the game was close until Co-Lin pushed theirlead up 8 points, 24-16, with 9:59 left after running off 8unanswered points. At the 7::01 mark, the Lady Wolves were up by 10points, 35-25.

Freshman forward Alicia Kennedy came off the bench and wasfouled, netting a pair of free throws followed by a jumper fromfreshman guard Whitney Scott to give the Lady Wolves a 29-26 lead.Northwest freshman forward Tiffany Baker nailed a 3-point shot atthe buzzer cut the deficit to 10 points, 39-29, at the half.

“We did a better job of running our offense in the first half,”added Young. “Our defense was much better. We made our free throwstonight.”

Co-Lin finished the game going 18 of 22 while Northwest went 11of 18.

In the second half, the closest the Lady Rangers came tocatching the Lady Wolves was cutting the deficit to 6 points,60-54, with 5:30 left to play. A trey from freshman guard CorissaTillman and a basket from freshman guard Nikki Williams put thehosts back up by 10, 64-54, with 4:10 left to play.

Powering the Lady Wolves with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3assists was sophomore guard Jennifer Carter who came off the benchto lead the squad. Tillman and Williams fired in 11 points apiece.Eric Trahan led off the backboards with 12 rebounds followed byDominique Whitfield with 10. Williams made 4 steals and had 3assists. Tillman also had 3 assists.

The Lady Rangers got 15 points from freshman guard PorsheBlackmon. Scoring 12 points and grabbing 7 rebounds was freshmanforward LaMaesha McAdory. Leading off the backboards with 9rebounds was Sharlene Murphy.
