Brookhaven Academy’s Lady Cougars have owned District 4-AA thepast 8 seasons. Tuesday night’s game against Silliman showed signsthat making it 9 straight seasons of domination may be just aroundthe corner.

In a rebuilding effort, the Lady Cougars opened district playTuesday night with a 53-37 whipping of the Lady Wildcats. BetsyLynch scored 15 points and had 2 steals as Brookhaven improved to8-5 overall and 1-0 in the district. The Lady Cougars have not losta district game in recent memory.

In the boys game, Brookhaven Academy topped Silliman 68-52, ledby Alan Gray’s 21 points, 5 assists and 5 steals.

Brookhaven Academy girls head coach Barry Gray saw his team comealive from long range, as five different players registered goalsfrom behind the arc. Maddie Allen, Drew Holland Tigner, and HolliCase each scored 7 points a piece in support of Lynch. Tigner andCase each had 4 assists. Allen had 3 assists of her own.

Mary Kennedy paced Silliman with 12 points in the game. KamerynKline and Taylor Tynes each scored 5 points for the LadyWildcats.

Brookhaven 68, Silliman 52

Jeremy Winborne and T-boy Lynch each scored 11 points in supportas the Cougars improved to 7-1(1-0) on the season. Winborne had 6steals and 5 rebounds to go along with his point total.

Brookhaven roared to 42-15 lead at the half and led 62-22 goinginto the fourth quarter. Coach Dale Watts substituted early andSilliman was able to outscore the Cougars 30-6 in the finalframe.

Silliman was led by Ethan Reams with 15 points. Spencer McClainadded 13 points for the Wildcats.

Junior High Action

In junior high girls action, Brookhaven topped Silliman 39-32,led by Nicole Smith’s 10 points, 10 steals and 5 rebounds. KristinKimble added 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Kelly Blackledge led Silliman with 13 points.

Brookhaven resumes play Friday afternoon as they host BowlingGreen La. in a four-game set in a district matchup. Tipoff in thefirst junior high game is set for 4 p.m.
