Brown powers Lady ‘Cats

Senior guard Meleah Brown and her Bogue Chitto teammates were ona mission Tuesday night at Enterprise. Brown pumped in 29 pointsand the Lady ‘Cats regained some respect, whipping the host LadyYellow Jackets 69-52.

“We were 0-3 in the Lincoln County tournament last week,” saidBrown who also had 6 assists and 4 rebounds. “We were determined towin this one. We had a good pregame talk in the locker room. It wasa big win for us.”

Brown sacked 5 treys and had 26 points at halftime as the Lady’Cats (5-5) rolled to a 38-14 lead. Enterprise (4-5) was under thedirection of assistant coach Rusti Smith Magee. Head coach JillNations was at home caring for her 8-month old baby son who wasill.

The Lady Jackets only scored 1 point in the second quarter andsuffered the consequences. Alisha Mason, the team’s leading scorer,fouled out with 52 seconds left in the third quarter and Enterprisetrailing 54-33. She was limited to 7 points on 1 field goal and 5free throws. Mason also had 6 rebounds.

Bogue Chitto coach Christi Terrell was pleased with her team’sperformance. “We played team ball and Meleah stepped up as our onlysenior and led us. We lost by two last time.”

Center Shasta Porter followed Brown with 18 points and 15rebounds. She scored 16 points in the second half.

Candace Avants dished out 7 assists. The Lady ‘Cats made 12steals and smothered Enterprise with full-court pressure, causing arash of turnovers.

Enterprise got a team-high 20 points from point guard MarquisaFrazier who sacked 6 treys from the top of the key.

Junior High Action

In the junior high girls game, Bogue Chitto edged Enterprise29-28, led by Adrienne Hall’s 10 points. Shelby Tobias added 9points and 7 rebounds.

Enterprise got 15 points from Karla Hux and 5 from Rawls.
