The Bowling Green Lady Buccaneers overcame a slow first quarterand came back to knock off the defending champion BrookhavenAcademy Lady Cougars 33-21 Wednesday night in the second round ofthe Brookhaven Academy Holiday Invitational Tournament.

In other tournament girls games yesterday, Simpson County dumpedHillcrest Christian 57-44, Marvell (Ark.) knocked off Adams CountyChristian School 42-29 and Central Private rolled over Marshall73-46.

Today’s girls games feature ACCS vs. Simpson at 11:45 a.m. andBrookhaven vs. Marshall at 2:20 p.m. in the loser’s bracket. In thewinner’s bracket, Parklane battles Central Private at 3:40 andBowling Green tangles with Marvell at 6:10.

Championship finals and consolation games will be playedFriday.

Bowling Green 33, Brookhaven 21

The 12-7 Brookhaven girls led Bowling Green 8-2 in the firstquarter. Second-quarter action saw the Lady Cougars still controlthe lead with a 15-13 advantage going into the second half.

Bowling Green outscored Brookhaven 20-6 in the second half forthe comeback win.

“We got out rebounded by nine,” said Brookhaven Academy girlscoach Barry Gray after the game. “We shot 22 percent from thefloor. Those are stats we have to work on.”

Bowling Green’s Jessica Crowe was the high scorer of the gamewith 15 points.

Pacing Brookhaven with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals wasfreshman Drew Holland Tigner. Kellie Brady followed with 8 pointsand 5 rebounds.

Simpson 57, Hillcrest 44

Katie Hubbard’s 23 points powered Simpson. Hillary Brittfollowed with 10 points.

Mitzi Morgan and Whitney Gallman scored 12 points apiece forHillcrest.

Marvell 42, ACCS 29

Directing Marvell with 11 points was Meagan Young. Emily Medfordfinished with 10.

Ariana DeLaSalle netted 8 points for ACCS which is coached byJohn Gray.

Central Private 73, Marshall 46

Central Private was led by Sonni Kirkwood with a tournament-high34 points.

Kim Shaw’s 19 points paced Marshall. Lindsay Taylor finishedwith 17 points.
