Services for Clarence B. “Doc” Johnson, of Brookhaven, are 11a.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at Bethel A.M.E. Church with burial in CarverHeights Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge ofarrangements.

Mr. Johnson, 78, died Dec. 27, 2005, at G.V. “Sonny” MontgomeryVeterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in LincolnCounty on April 12, 1927, to Clarence E. Johnson and Bonita WomackJohnson.

He was a retired educator and a veteran of the Army. He was amember of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Mr. Johnson graduated from Alexander High School in 1945. Hejoined the Army and served in Germany. He earned the rank ofsergeant in field artillery.

He is a graduate of Tougaloo college with a Bachelor of ScienceDegree; Central Missouri State with a Master of Science Degree inEcology; and attended Dillard University in New Orleans and AlcornState University in Lorman.

He joined Bethel A.M.E. Church at an early age and served as asteward, Sunday school superintendent for 30 years and classleader. He was presently a member of the Seventh Day AdventistChurch where he served as Sunday school superintendent.

Mr. Johnson taught science at Durant High School in Durant;McCullough High School in Monticello; and Progress High School andEva Harris High School, both in Brookhaven. He coached girl’sbasketball and in this capacity he took them to the StateChampionship in 1961.

He served for eight years as alderman of Ward Three inBrookhaven. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, TougalooAlumni Club and the National Book Club.

He was author of “Integration vs. Segregation in MississippiSchools.”

He enjoyed gardening, yard beautification, sports and workingwith disadvantaged youth.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his first bornchild, Wanda D. Johnson.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Hall Johnson, of Brookhaven; hisfour sons, Clarence B. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Felecia, ofBaltimore, Kenneth R. Johnson and his wife, Georgia, of Brandon,Ramon S. Johnson and his wife, Dorothy, of Port Gibson, and TimothyJohnson, of Brookhaven; his sister, Gay Brigman, of Crosby, Texas;two grandchildren; and other relatives.
