BA teams chop down Oak Forest

AMITE, La. — Brookhaven Academy’s basketball teams continuedtheir District 4-AA dominance Tuesday night as the Cougars sweptfour games from Oak Forest. In varsity action, the BA boys blastedOak Forest 55-26 while the BA girls cruised to a 50-32 win.
Brookhaven Academy resumes basketball action Friday night asthey travel to face Natchez Trinity Episcopal in another districtcontest.
Brookhaven 55, Oak Forest 26
Jeremy Winborne scored 12 points, pulled down 4 rebounds and hadthree assists to lead Brookhaven as they improved to 16-1 overalland 5-0 in district play. Kurt Perkins and Seth Davis each added 11points. Perkins had 5 steals and 3 assists. Davis followed with 4steals and 3 rebounds.
“We played pretty well tonight,” said Cougars coach Dale Watts.”I wasn’t really focused on us trying to steal the ball or forceturnovers. I wanted us to focus and guarding and playing gooddefense.”
“I thought Oak Forest did a good job,” added Watts. “They playedwith us the first half and made us step up our game a little bit inthe second half.”
Randall Miller led Oak Forest with 13 points in the game.
Brookhaven 50, Oak Forest 32
In varsity girls action, Brookhaven coach Barry Gray saw histeam play good, fundamental basketball as the Lady Cougars rolledover the Yellow Jackets.
“This was probably the best game we’ve played all year.” saidGray. “Our girls had a couple of big wins in the last two games andwe’re playing with a lot of confidence. Everyone played well andhit their shots. Holly (Case) did a great job in the role she hadto play tonight.”
Maddie Allen led Brookhaven with 14 points, including 4three-point field goals. Kellie Brady added 10 points and 5rebounds as the Lady Cougars improved to 15-7 overall and 4-1 indistrict play.
Sierah Brabham led Oak Forest with 16 points.
Junior High Action
In junior high boys action, Brookhaven smoked the Yellow Jackets60-10 led by Jake Baker’s 10 points. Joshua Winborne, Tripp Jollyand Ty Smith each added 8 points for the Cougars, as they improvedto 9-2 overall and 5-0 in district play.
Blake Carter led Oak Forest with 5 points.
In girls action, Brookhaven topped Oak Forest 30-26 as KristinKimble and Hannah Hickman each scored 8 points. Katie Beth Casefollowed with 6 points as Brookhaven improved to 12-1 overall and5-0 in district play.
Laura Brumfield led Oak Forest with 10 points. Ashlyn Nealfollowed with 8 points.
