Brookhaven woman killed in accident

A Brookhaven woman was killed early Sunday morning when hervehicle left the road while returning from Natchez, an officialsaid Monday.

Tammy Lavette Gayten, 40, left Highway 84 in her 2004 ChevroletTrailblazer and overturned around 12:24 a.m. Sunday, said StaffSgt. Rod Crawford, public affairs officer for Mississippi HighwayPatrol Troop M.

“She was not belted and was ejected,” he said.

Gayten, the only occupant of the vehicle, was transferred byambulance to Natchez Regional Medical Center, where she waspronounced dead on arrival, Crawford said.

The cause of the accident is unknown.

“We don’t know whether there was a distraction, fatigue, a deerran out in front of her … We just don’t know,” Crawford said.

Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements, which areincomplete.
