Services for Myrtle G. Reed Newton, of Brookhaven, are 10 a.m.Friday, Jan. 13 at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel withburial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Newton, 85, died Jan. 10, 2006, at her residence. She wasborn on May 2, 1920, to John Clarence Golmon and Myrtle MelissaGolmon.

She was a graduate of Whitworth College. She retired fromKellwood Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where shetaught children’s classes for 20 years. She was involved in thenursing home ministry for 15 years and was active in the Women’sMissionary Union.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, LuraGolmon, Ima Hoggatt and Ruby Ainsworth; and her brothers, HowellGolmon and Leon Golman.

Survivors are her husband, Roscoe P. Newton; her sons, Lonnie P.Reed and his wife, Pat, of Brookhaven; her daughters, Susan ReedParker and her husband, Henry, of Prattville, Ala., Melissa ReedOtten and her husband, Dan of Hilltop, Minn., and Betty Morgan, ofSmithdale; her brothers, Hollis Golmon and his wife, Loisa, ofMonticello, and John C. Golmon and his wife, Betty, of Seminole,Texas; her sisters, Ara A. Golmon, of Brookhaven, and AileenHoggatt and her husband, Grover, of Bridge City, Texas; eightgrandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
