Services for Johnny P. Byrd, of Gadsden, Ala., are 2 p.m. today,Jan. 13 at Christ Central United Methodist Church with burial inRainbow Memorial Park, both in Rainbow City, Ala. Collier-ButlerFuneral Home and Cremation Service in Gadsden is in charge ofservices.

Visitation is from 1:30 to 2 p.m. today.

Mr. Byrd, 64, died Jan. 10, 2006.

He was a native of Brookhaven and a resident of Gadsden for manyyears. He was a graduate of Brookhaven High School, MississippiState University and a member of Christ Central United MethodistChurch. Mr. Byrd was a Sunday school teacher, Eagle Scout and BoyScout leader, as well as past president of the Gadsden Jaycees, andthe Gadsden Civitan Club having been a member for 25 years. He wasalso a past member of the Gideons, member of the Investment Club,Civil Service Board, “fireman interviewer,” Locksmith Board ofAmerican, on the Hope Home Board and previous member of the zoningboard, and various civic organizations.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe P. and ElizabethByrd; a sister, Mary Virginia Byrd; and a brother, Joseph ScottByrd.

Survivors are his wife of 39 years, Sharon Bishop Byrd, ofGadsden; his daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Byrd and Tim Blake,of Hoover, Ala, Beth Byrd and Judge J. Kevin Grimes, of Centre,Ala., and Christian Byrd and Michael Kourmoulis, of Inverness, Ala;three granddaughters, Laura Blake, of Hoover, Caroline Blake, ofHoover, and Johna Gabrielle Kourmoulis, of Iverness; his sister, JoBeth Abrams, of Florence; his brother-in-law, Carl Wayne Bishop, ofSouthside; his sister-in-law, Syble Bishop, of Southside; hisnephews, Carl Wayne Bishop, Ronald Allen Bishop and Karl Abrams;his nieces, Suzanne Bishop Stargell and Kelly Anne Abrams; hisgreat-nephews, Cody Bishop and Chase Stargell; his special friends,Garry Ray and Dianna Ray, Nathan Holley and Beverly Holley; and hiscousins, Mary and Gerald Powell.

Pallbearers will be Troy Wadkins, Gary Singleton, Rodney Poovey,Nathan Holley, Gerald Powell, David Ayers and Merle Grimes.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of his morning prayergroups and all of his friends at Tony’s and Jacks.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made toChrist Central Methodist Church or to the Hope Homes.
