Only stumps remain at the Lincoln County Federal EmergencyManagement Agency debris dump.

Trucks removed the last of the chipped debris Sunday, saidLincoln County Emergency Management Director Clifford Galey.

“Things went well. They found places to take it and that made iteasy. We didn’t expect to be done until the end of this week,” hesaid.

The dump was established shortly after Hurricane Katrinaclean-up operations began. The chipping activity continuedfollowing completion of debris removal efforts in the city andcounty.

The county emergency director said he did not have a tonnage onthe amount of chips removed from the site, but he added that morethan 110,000 yards of debris had been hauled into the dump forchipping.

Another estimated 4,000 to 5,000 yards of chips is expected fromthe stumps, Galey said. The stumps should take less than a week togrind into chips when the proper equipment arrives from PikeCounty, where it is presently being used in chippingoperations.

Once the stumps have been ground into chips and removed, Galeysaid, Lincoln County’s Katrina clean-up operations will beofficially complete.

“We’re happy to see it done,” Galey said.
