Services for LaMildred Longmire Prater, of Brookhaven, were 11a.m. today, Jan. 27 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church withburial in Lovelady Cemetery in Forest. W.F. Mapp Funeral Home inForest was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Prater, 81, died Jan. 24, 2006, at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center in Jackson. She was born on May 10, 1924, the fourthdaughter of Malcolm and Maggie McFarland Longmire.
She was a graduate of Alcorn State University, where shereceived a degree in education. She taught school in the LincolnCounty School District for about 40 years. She was a faithfuleducator to the end of her career and life.
Mrs. Prater will be remembered for countless hours of devoted,giving service as a teacher, mentor and friend. Those students whomshe encouraged and inspired were always welcome where ever she sawthem. Her belief was, “If you are going to serve, be a faithfulserver.”
Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers and threesisters, Chester, Lindon, Cantrell, John, James, Dessaree, Dorothyand Leola.
Survivors include her brother, Marshall Longmire; and manynieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
