Co-Lin sweeps Jones County

ELLISVILLE — Powered by guard Joe Holliday’s 22 points and adecisive team rebounding advantage, the Co-Lin Wolves snapped a2-game losing streak Monday night and beat the Jones County JuniorCollege Bobcats 74-70. Co-Lin held a 40-20 rebounding advantageover JCJC, led by Tremaine Enoch’s 10 rebounds in the SouthDivision test.
In the women’s game, Co-Lin roared to a 75-56 triumph, directedby playmaker Nikki Williams with 20 points and center Anna Autmanwith 15.
Co-Lin continues South Division play Thursday night, visitingEast Central Community College at Decatur. The women’s game tipsoff at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 7:45.
The Wolves (9-6, 4-3) got 12 points and 6assists from playmaker Ivory Dishmon. Center Christian Marshall had10 points and 8 rebounds. Enoch added 10 points.
Co-Lin head coach Dennis Sims said his team’s reboundingperformance was decisive. “Our advantage on the boards wasinstrumental in the win.”
The Bobcats were led by Prince Trotter’s game-high 20 points.Duran Eckford added 20 points.
The Lady Wolves (11-4, 7-0) maintained theirperfect South Division record, winning their eighth straight game.Ten points by Dominique Whitfield joined Williams and Autman indouble digits.
Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young said he was pleased with histeam’s second-half defensive effort. “We were able to hold Jones tojust 22 points in the second half. Our defense was solid.
“It was a very good win on the road against a good Jones team,”Young added. “Our offense was not working so we went to our zonepress. We got some steals and quick baskets.”
Williams scored 14 of her points in the second half as Co-Linbroke open a 34-34 halftime deadlock. Autman had 13 points in thefirst half. Williams made 5 steals.
Whitney Scott and Erica Trahan each had 4 assists. Trahan alsohad 8 rebounds.
Jones was led by Kelsey Hopkins with 16 points. Deanna Poweadded 15 points and 6 rebounds.
