Amanda Walker, Lincoln County’s former 4-H Youth Agent, has beenexpanding her knowledge of Mississippi State Cooperative ExtensionService programs since she became the director of the LawrenceCounty office.

“It’s a new challenge. I’m having a lot of fun,” she said.

In Brookhaven, Walker said her job primarily targeted the youth.As the director of branch office, though, she has to be familiar afar broader range of programs, such as forestry, child careproviders, farming and many more.

“I miss working with the children,” she said. “In this positionI do have some interaction with the 4-H youth program but notmuch.”

Walker said leaving Brookhaven was a tough choice, but the movewas a good career opportunity.

“In Lawrence County, I had the opportunity to get someadministrative experience and work with an adult audience as well,”she said.

Walker’s former position has not yet been filled since herdeparture in the fall.

The application deadline for the Brookhaven 4-H youth agentvacancy is today, said Lincoln County extension agent PerryBrumfield. Applications may be filed online at www.msucares.com orthrough the Department of Employment Security.

A review board will decide who receives the position, Brumfieldsaid.

“I don’t have much input on who we get,” he said. “We would liketo have a people person – someone good with people.”
