Lady ‘Cats stop Ethel

ETHEL — Center Shasta Porter tossed in 22 points and andgrabbed 9 rebounds in leading Bogue Chitto’s Lady ‘Cats to an 80-68Monday night win over Ethel in the opening round of the South 1Aplayoffs. Meleah Brown added 19 points and Kimberlee Thomas 15 asthey advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals.

The Lady ‘Cats (16-11) will play Stringer Thursday night at 8:30in the quarterfinals at Stringer.

Bogue Chitto coach Christi Terrell said her team played a strongoffensive game and overcame a series of turnovers to beat Ethel.They led 34-24 at halftime.,

“We would get a 10-point lead and lose it, and then we would geta 10-point lead and lose it again,” said Terrell. “Our girls keptplaying hard.

“Ethel was a very quick team,” said Terrell. “We did a good jobof passing through their press and getting a bunch of layups.”

On the backboards, Brown had 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Portergrabbed 9 rebounds.

Ethel was led by Tearsanae Hall and Kinesha Merritt with 20points each. Tara Alston added 18 points for the Lady Tigers.
