WESSON — Anna Autman and her Co-Lin teammates slammed the dooron the Jones County Junior College women in the second half. Autmanovercame a first-half cut beneath her right eye and a cracked toothin leading the Lady Wolves to a 79-67 Thursday night win in MullenGymnasium.

Autman, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Brookhaven, accounted for 16points and 10 rebounds in the South Division victory as Co-Lincompleted regular season play 16-6 overall and 12-2 in the South,giving the Lady Wolves No. 1 seeding in next weeks’ MACJC StateTournament at Senatobia.

Co-Lin will play the No. 4 team out of the North on Tuesday.Semifinals are Wednesday and championship finals are Thursday inthe Northwest Community College gymnasium.

Asked about her injury, Autman said, “I got elbowed by No. 20(Kelsey Hopkins) on a rebound. I’ve got to go get stitches and thengo to the dentist.”

She and her teammates were confronted by a 39-37 halftimedeficit. The Lady Bobcats (11-12, 7-7) had faint hopes of a No. 4seed in the South if they could author an upset. They had lost75-56 to Co-Lin at Ellisville, on Jan. 30.

“We had to play harder on defense the second half,” said Autman.”Coach (Gwyn Young) told us to get out there and play hard.”

Autman sank a baseline jumper to start the second half, gainingCo-Lin a 39-all deadlock. Teammate Whitney Scott sank a shortjumper from the lane for a 41-39 advantage. Scott would finish witha game-high 20 points, plus 10 rebounds.

Co-Lin went on a 19-7 run as Scott and Autman both sacked 6points along the way. The Wolves led 54-46 at the 13:54 mark on atrey by Ashley Murphy.

“Anna played well in the second half,” said Coach Young. “Sheposted up and was able to score.”

A driving layup by playmaker Nikki Williams pushed Co-Lin aheadby 14 points, 67-53, with 7:59 left in the game.

“We played better defense the second half,” said Young. “We madea couple of shots from the outside which opened it up.”

Co-Lin recognized 5 sophomore members of the team during pregameintroductions. Young said he was pleased with his young squad’sprogress.

“We had no starters coming back after we lost Kristian McCray(torn ACL),” Young pointed out. “I’m very pleased with where we areat this time.”

The Bobcats, coached by Sandra Sumrall, only have two sophomoreson the squad and one starts. They were led by two freshmen, 6-footcenter Chinita Steele of Beaumont and 5-7 guard Deanne Powe ofWaynesboro with 13 points each. Steele also had 11 rebounds.

Rosemary Green, a 5-10 freshman from Mize, scored 10 points. Shefouled out with 38 seconds left in the game.
