Wildcats eliminate Bears 64-55

The South Leake Wildcats eliminated the host West Lincoln Bears64-55 Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the South State 1APlayoffs.

In the other games, Durant whipped Mercy Cross 84-35, McAdamsput away Sebastopol 71-57 and Thomastown crushed Lake 67-43.

In today’s semifinals, Durant meets South Leake (18-15)at 6 p.m.and McAdams tangles with Thomastown at 7:30.

The finals will be held Saturday with consolation action at 6and the championship game at 7:30.

South Leake 64, West Leake 55

West Lincoln (23-5) got behind South Leake in the first quarter17-13. The second quarter was a disaster for the hosts as thevisitors went on a 17-5 run to push their lead to 34-18 athalftime.

“The second quarter killed us as we could not score and hadnumerous turnovers,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young.

The Bears and Wildcats scored 11 points apiece in the thirdquarter as South Leake took a 45-29 lead into the final frame. WestLincoln made a run, outscoring them 26-19, but it was not enough tocatch up at the end.

“We managed to cut their lead down, but we could not get overthe hump,” added Young. “We fought all the way to the end. Wepicked a bad night to have a bad game. South Leake has very goodspeed and made nice passes to get easy baskets.”

Powering the Bears with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists wasShane Lynch. Aaron Shaw netted 11 points and made 4 rebounds.Bradleigh Rice pulled down 8 rebounds. Grabbing 7 rebounds eachwere Stephen Jones and Jeremy Byrd.

“West Lincoln is a good team, they fought hard,” said SouthLeake coach Jaworski Rankin. “I am thankful to get out with a win.I’m excited about this team because this is my first year ascoach.”

Directing the Wildcats with 20 points and 8 rebounds was JustinBrown. Keith Earnest pumped in 15 points, grabbed 3 rebounds andmade 3 steals. Adam Ealy finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4steals.

Durant 84, Mercy Cross 35

Michael Riley and Jerome Heffner led Durant with 14 pointsapiece. Scoring 13 points was Jonathan Boyd. Robin Marzettefollowed with 10.

Mercy Cross got 7 points apiece from Reagan Bridley and TomQuinn.

McAdams 71, Sebastopol 57

Clyde Moore powered McAdams with 23 points. Scoring 21 pointswas Victor Anderson. Dynatious Latiker finished with 18.

Sebastopol got 25 points from Norman Haynes. Alton Clark netted22 points.

Thomastown 67, Lake 43

Lemarcus Clayton’s 34 points sparked Thomastown. Lafiamma Mayfinished with 18.

Terald McBeath led Lake with 9 points. Al Viverette scored8.
