Loyd Star girls hang loss on West Lincoln

Loyd Star pitcher Ariel Hunsucker pitched a 4-hitter and theLoyd Star Lady Hornets beat the host West Lincoln Lady Bears 8-5Monday in fastpitch softball action. Hunsucker (2-0) struck out 4batters and walked none.
“Ariel Hunsucker pitched a great game,” said Loyd Star coach JanDelaughter. “She didn’t give up an earned run until the seventhinning.
“We made some defensive errors, but we made up for them with ourbats,” said Delaughter. “We played a good game.”
Loyd Star took a 5-0 lead after 2 innings and led 8-0 in thefifth. A triple by Shelby Farmer and 2 singles by Brittany Beesonpaced the attack. Kristen Newell, Annie Smith, Abby Delaughter,Carrie Moak, Calleye Douglas and Hunsucker singled.
“We can’t make too many errors and expect to win, especiallyagainst a team like Loyd Star,” said West Lincoln coach AndrewRedd. His Lady Bears are at Vicksburg St. Aloysius Thursday for aDivision 7-1A test, starting at 5 p.m.
Heather Huff was the losing pitcher against Loyd Star. Shewalked 2 batters and struck out none.
Two singles by Holli Smith, Keri Easley and Ashley McCaffery ledWest Lincoln at the plate. Britnee Smith singled.
Junior Varsity Results
West Lincoln beat Loyd Star 4-1 in the junior varsity game, ledby pitcher Kacie Smith who struck out 7 batters and walked 1.Singles by Keri Easley and Stephany Smith led the victory.
Loyd Star’s Brooke Delaughter (1-1) fanned 6 and walked 2 in alosing cause. Brittany Wallace, Emily Smith, Molly Smith andDelaughter singled.
