Hornets sweep Forrest Co. AHS

Loyd Star baseball coach Johnathan Breakfield had reason tosmile on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. He got two complete-gamepitching performances, some key home runs and two victories overthe Forrest County AHS Aggies. The Hornets beat the Class 4A Aggies5-2 in the opener and 4-3 in the nightcap.
Loyd Star (4-2) resumes play Tuesday at home against Wesson, inthe first Division 6-2A test of the season. A junior varsity gamestarts at 4:30, followed by the varsity at 6:30.
Loyd Star 5, Forrest Co. AHS 2
Tyler Williford (1-0) pitched an 8-hitter. The seniorright-hander struck out 8 batters and walked none. Neither teamcommitted an error.
“It was a very well-played game,” said Loyd Star coach JonathanBreakfield. “Both teams played clean baseball. Tyler threw a lot ofstrikes in his first start. He did a good job.”
C.J. Carli took the loss. He walked 7 and fanned 3, allowing 6hits.
The Hornets exploded for 5 runs in the third. Designated hitterKyle James hit a 2-run double. Jarred Rogers had an RBI single andBrent Fielder slugged a 2-run homer.
Loyd Star got singles from Rogers, Patrick Holcomb, Willifordand Jeremy James.
First baseman Josh Naylor had 2 hits for the Aggies.

Senior southpaw Kyle James pitched the win over the Aggies,going the distance on the mound. He struck out 5 batters, walked 1and scattered 6 hits. James also hit a home run.
The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the third. The Aggies gained a2-2 deadlock in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Hornets scored twice. John Floydsingled and Michael Britt followed with a 2-run homer.
Collecting singles for the Hornets were Patrick Holcomb, CayceFalvey, Williford and Floyd.
“Forrest County is a quality 4A program,” said Breakfield. “Theyare a well-coached team, too.”
The Aggies got singles from Jeremy Sellers and MichaelSanders.
Bobo Morgan was the losing pitcher.
