Services for Donald Ray Thornton, of Smithdale, were 10 a.m.today, March 10, at Siloam Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery. Franklin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thornton, 70, died March 9, 2006, at his residence. He wasborn in Smithdale on Aug. 21, 1935, to Henry B. Thornton and AnnieFreeman Thornton.

He served in the Air Force as a military police officer from1955 to 1959, and was stationed in Texas, South Carolina and Korea.Once discharged, he worked as a carpenter and was retired fromClark Construction Co., in McComb.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Jonnie T.Nickelson, of Jackson; and his brothers, Alton Thornton, ofSmithdale, and Bernard Thornton, of Texas.

Survivors are his son, Chuck Thornton of Smithdale; hisdaughters, Sharree Thornton Griffin, of Roxie, and Nolana ThorntonGriffin, of Tylertown; his brothers, Pat Thornton and BarneyThornton, both of Smithdale, Burnett Thornton, of Meadville, andGlen Thornton, of Jackson; his sister, Letha Mae Thornton Murray,of Liberty; his seven grandchildren; and many nieces andnephews.
