Rogers fans 12 batters; Hornets rip W. Lincoln

Jarred Rogers struck out 12 batters and walked on to lead thevisiting Loyd Star Hornets to a 13-5 win over the West LincolnBears Saturday afternoon in baseball action. The Hornets improvedto 10-3 overall and remain 0-1 in Division 6-2A play. The Bearsfell to 2-7 on the season and still are 2-3 in Division 7-1Aaction.

The losing hurler in the game was Shane Lynch with 1 strikeoutand 2 hit batters.

The Hornets finished with 12 h its and the Bears with 8. Bothteams committed five errors apiece.

Loyd Star’s Kyle James homered in the top of the second inningfor a 1-0 lead.

The Hornets came back with four runs in the top of the fourthfor a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Mason Douglas ripped a 2-run homerun for West Lincoln to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Bears cut theHornets lead to 5-3 in the fourth.

Loyd Star roared back with an 8-2 run in the final three inningsfor the win.

“We continue to hit the ball well,” said Loyd Star coachJonathan Breakfield. “Jarred Rogers came out and gave us somequality innings.”

Contributing to the Loyd Star win with a double and a singleeach were Brent Fielder and John Floyd. Jeremy James and MichaelBritt smashed a pair of singles apiece. Singling were TylerWilliford, Evan Smith and Rogers,

“Shane pitched well,” stated West Lincoln coach Keith Cline. “Attimes, we look good and at times we don’t. We still are growing up.We are trying to figure out how to win.

“My guys never quit and fought hard,” added Cline. “Overall, wedid okay and are making progress.”

Brett Rushing led the Bears with three singles. Ripping a pairof singles was Casey Britt. Lynch doubled and Douglas added asingle.

West Lincoln plays Tuesday at St. Al. Loyd Star entertains St.Andrew’s.

Junior varsity results

Loyd Star dumped West Lincoln 6-3 in JV action.

Trey Moyer doubled and singled for the Bears. Grant Rushing andMatt Maggee singled.
