Melvin DeLaughter

Melvin DeLaughter, 79, formerly of Brookhaven, died March 17,2006, at McComb Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. DeLaughter was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 7, 1926, toFate “Pap” DeLaughter and Dixie King DeLaughter.

He was a former police officer with the Brookhaven PoliceDepartment and a retired truck driver.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his 12 brothers andsisters.

Survivors are his daughter, Judy Dunomes, of Hammond, La.; hisson-in-law, Jewel Dunomes; his grandchildren, Christopher, Ashleyand Brian; his sister, Pearlie Crane, of Brookhaven; hissister-in-law, Rosalie DeLaughter, of Natchez; his special friend,Deborah Payne, of Brookhaven; and a host of nieces, nephews andfriends.

Mr. DeLaughter was cremated according to his wishes and hisremains will be buried in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. John’sCommunity Funeral Home in Columbia, was in charge ofarrangements.

Willie B. Quarles Sr.

Services for Willie B. Quarles Sr., of Miami, Fla., formerly ofBrookhaven, are 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Zion Hill M.B. Churchin Wesson with burial in the church cemetery. Williams Mortuary isin charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 12 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, withfamily present from 6 to 7 p.m.

Mr. Quarles, 78, died March 18, 2006, at Cedar Hospital inMiami. He was born on May 2, 1927, to David Quarles and EdnaQuarles.

He was retired. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and servedduring World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brothers, JamesDaniel Quarles, Jessie B. Quarles and Elgie Quarles.

Survivors are his wife, Betty Eaton Quarles, of Hattiesburg; hisdaughters, Christine Quarles, of Miami, Vertis Quarles, TheresaQuarles and Katherine McGee, all of Brookhaven, Brandy Quarles, ofHattiesburg, Harriett Banks, of Jackson, Angela Blue, of Dallas,Texas, Monica Quarles, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Tamara Eaton, ofHattiesburg; his sons, Willie B. Quarles Jr. Willie D. Quarles,Tony Banks, Herman Quarles, Raymond Quarles and Tony Quarles, allof Brookhaven, and Robert Quarles, of Walnut Grove; and a host ofgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren,nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Huey Ralph Rowells

Visitation for Huey Ralph Rowells, of Hattiesburg, are from 1:30to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Moore Funeral Home inHattiesburg.

Mr. Rowells, 70, died March 21, 2006, at Forrest GeneralHospital.

He was the owner of Lucky’s Package Store. He was previously acoach and director of Dixie Boys Baseball and a previous member ofNoon Time Optimist Club. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marines andserved during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Baptistfaith.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Jessie Lee and EthelRowell.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha “Marty” Rowells,of Hattiesburg; his sons, Jerry Rowells and Greg Rowells, both ofBrookhaven, and Major Michael Rowells of Terry; his daughters,Renee Jackson, of Brookhaven, and Michell Fuller and Nicole “Nikki”Stogner, both of Petal; his brothers, Jimmy Rowell and LamarRowell, both of Jayess; his sisters, Sue McGill, of Houston, Texas,Mary Lou Boyd, of Brookhaven, and Jackie Powell, of Jayess; and his14 grandchildren;

Memorials may be made to St. Jude.

Marie McKnight Wall

Services for Marie McKnight Wall, of Quitman, Ga., are 11 a.m.Saturday, March 25, at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Bogue Chitto withburial in the church cemetery. Tyler Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Wall, 90, died March 17, 2006, at Presbyterian Home inQuitman. She was born on Jan. 26, 1916, to John McKnight and FannieMcKnight.

She was a homemaker.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, J.Hugh Wall; her children, James Hugh Wall, Diane Card and LeversyWall; her 16 sisters and brothers; and three grandchildren.

Survivors are her daughters, Theresa Chrutchfield, of Detroit,Mich., Oneta Grimes and Lorraine Mitchell, both of Valdosta, Ga.;and her 15 grandchildren.
