West Lincoln nips Bogue Chitto 7-6

BOGUE CHITTO — West Lincoln’s Keri Easley singled to scoreBritnee Smith for the 7-6 lead and eventual win in the eighthinning Thursday night as the Lady Bears nipped the Bogue ChittoLady ‘Cats in Region 7-1A fastpitch softball action.

The Lady Bears tied the game 7-all in the top of the seventhwhen Hannah Knouse scored the tying run on a Bogue Chitto throwingerror.

West Lincoln (9-3, 4-0) entertains Brookhaven today for adoubleheader. Bogue Chitto (5-6, 2-1) is at North PikeSaturday.

“Bogue Chitto hit the ball well,” said West Lincoln girls coachAndrew Redd. “We made some errors that hurt us early in the game.But we stayed with it. The weather made it hard on everybody.”

West Lincoln took a brief 2-0 lead in the first inning. BogueChitto roared back for 6 runs to take a 6-2 lead at the end ofthree.

The Lady Bears scored 3 runs in the top of the fifth to cut thedeficit to 6-5.

The Lady ‘Cats committed 8 errors and the Lady Bears had 4.

“We made too many errors and mental mistakes,” stated BogueChitto coach Scott Leggett. “When you get up 6-2 , you should beable to get the job done.”

Heather Huff was the winning pitcher with 5 strikeouts and nowalks. Meleah Brown absorbed the loss, striking out 7 and walking5.

Holli Smith sparked the Lady Bears with a double and 2 singles.Easley added a double. Huff, Hannah Knouse and Alexis Cooksingled.

Pacing the Lady ‘Cats with a double and 2 singles was DevonWelch. Dori Hall tripled and singled. Also tripling was ChelseyMiller. Hitting safely were Candace Avants and Kelli Howard.

Junior varsity results

West Lincoln shut out Bogue Chitto 6-0 in JV play. Kacey Smithfanned 6 batters and walked 1 for the win. Howard struck out 2 andwalked 8 in the loss.

The Lady Bears (7-1-1) got 2 singles from Kacey Smith. StephanieSmith, Haley Ainsworth, Alana Cupit and Katie Mullins singled.
