Lady Wolves sweep ECCC

DECATUR — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves were victorious road warriorsMonday, knocking off highly-regarded East Central Community Collegein a fastpitch softball doubleheader. Co-Lin won the opener 12-4 inextra innings and took the nightcap 8-2.

Co-Lin (22-6), coached by Allen Kent, resumes play Thursday,hosting Gulf Coast for a South Division doubleheader. Action beginsat 1 p.m.

Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent praised the performance of pitchersErin Douglass, Jackie Stowe and Emily Horne. “Our pitchers did agreat job. East Central (32-5) only had three losses prior totoday. They have been scoring a lot of runs.

“It was a good trip for us and our girls wanted revenge after wesplit with them at our place earlier in the year. Our girls reallystepped up today.”

Co-Lin 12, East Central 4

In the opener, Co-Lin catcher Megan Bateman set the tone,leading off the game with a double off the left-center field wall.Bateman scored on a sacrifice fly by Allyson Wallace.

After the Lady Warriors scored twice in the third, Co-Lin gaineda 2-2 deadlock ins the sixth. Annie Selman delivered a clutch,2-out single to score pinch runner Jessica Hart. She was runningfor Amber Beeson who had reached on an error. Hart had advanced tosecond on a sacrifice bunt by Kaylin Burke.

Co-Lin exploded for 10 runs in the 8th, collecting 6 hits, 2walks and capitalizing on 4 ECCC errors. The Wolves sent 12 battersto the plate.

Douglass (11-3) tossed a 5-hitter. She struck out 2 and walked4.

Bateman went 4-for-5, collecting 2 RBIs. Kady King had 2 hitsand scored twice. Wallace had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

“We played great defense and had some really good at-bats,” saidKent. “Erin battled hard and kept us in the game.”

Stowe pitched the win, going 4.2 innings. She gave up 5 hits, 1earned run fanning 4 and walking 2.

Jackie did a good job in her first outing of the year,” saidKent. “She ate up some innings and gave Emily some rest.”

Horne shut out ECCC in the last 2 innings. She fanned 5 andallowed 1 hit.

At the plate, Selman led Co-Lin with a 3-for-4 effort. Batemanand Stowe both had 2 hits and 2 runs scored.

An RBI double off the left field wall by Lauren Smith scoredStowe. Latoya Braxton was save on an error and scored on afielder’s choice by Burke.

In the fourth, Bateman stroked a 2-out, 2-RBI double. Douglashit an RBI single for a 5-1 lead.
